This month in history (154 years ago) Before residence halls, students found rooms in homes. One wrote, “Our lessor has procured for us a small cook stove & furnished us with dishes etc. as we shall need. We went down street & got on a stock of provisions consisting of half a bushel of potatoes, 2 loaves of bread, a bar of soap, added to which we have a piece of meat … We anticipate a tolerably pleasant time.” — Courtesy Bentley Historical Library and “Photographic Saga of the University of Michigan” by Anne Duderstadt.
