The following items were approved by the Board of Regents at its Feb. 17 meeting.
Lloyd Hall renovation receives final approval
The regents authorized issuing bids and awarding construction contracts for the Alice Crocker Lloyd Hall Renovation project. The $56 million project includes new plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, fire detection and suppression, wired and wireless networking, renovated bath facilities and accessibility improvements, as well as new living-learning spaces in the vacated dining areas no longer needed since the Hill Dining Center became operational. The project is being funded from Housing resources and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2012.
Renovations planned at C. C. Little
A $2 million project will renovate approximately 10,600 gross square feet of space on the fourth floor of the Clarence Cook Little Science Building to create modern research facilities for recently recruited faculty in the Department of Geological Sciences. The project is being funded by LSA and is scheduled to be completed this fall.
School of Social Work to be renovated
Approximately 18,400 gross square feet of space on the atrium level of the School of Social Work Building will be renovated to enhance the school’s educational programs, including creation of a new clinical suite and updated spaces for student interaction, as well as expanded spaces for continuing education programs. The $1.85 million project is being funded by the School of Social Work and is scheduled to be completed this summer.

Retirements
Raymond Kettel, associate professor of education in the School of Education, UM-Dearborn, effective Dec. 31, 2010. He received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Education and Doctor of Education degrees from Wayne State University in 1966, 1972 and 1981, respectively. He worked as a Peace Corps volunteer and held multiple educational positions in the Detroit Public Schools before joining UM-Dearborn faculty in 1988. Kettel widely was regarding for his expertise in children’s literature, and his many publications and projects reflect his innovative contributions to the teaching of reading and language arts. Among his many awards, the UM-Dearborn Alumni Society named him “Faculty Member of the Year” in 2005.
