George H.W. Bush took the podium on the steps of the Michigan Union to open a yearlong celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Peace Corps. The vice president said, “What we celebrate today is not just the Peace Corps’ 25th anniversary … but a new beginning as well.” A highlight of the celebration was the two-day symposium that featured discussions by African and American scholars and policymakers.
