His research focused on the regulation of microbial nitrogen metabolism. His work yielded more than 60 research publications, earned him fellowships from the American Cancer Society and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and was director of the graduate program in cell and molecular biology from 1992-96. He was a founding faculty member of the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology when it was established in 2001 and served the department as associate chair for undergraduate studies from 2005-08.

Edwin Curley, James B. and Grace J. Nelson Professor of Philosophy and professor of philosophy, LSA, effective May 31. David F. Dolan, research associate professor in the Kresge Hearing Research Institute, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Medical School, effective June 30. Dolan joined the faculty in 1986. His research to define the normal mechanisms involved in sensory transduction of hearing, fundamental to understanding the causes of hearing loss and other conditions, resulted in 65 journal publications, 11 book chapters and 137 abstract presentations. His research on efferent effects on cochlear physiology improved understanding of how signals returning from the brain help to fine tune sound processing in the inner ear.

Dr. David Schteingart, professor of internal medicine, Medical School, effective June 30. Schteingart joined the faculty in 1963. He widely is regarded for his expertise in the areas of Cushing’s Syndrome, adrenal cancer and obesity; he has published more than 90 peer-reviewed articles and 35 book chapters on these topics.
