Members of the U-M community can reward innovative teaching by submitting a brief online form nominating someone for the 2020 Provost’s Teaching Innovation Prize through Jan. 31.
Nominations will be accepted from students, faculty, graduate student instructors, department chairs, directors, deans and staff members. Faculty self-nominations are also welcome, as are re-submitted nominations.

Now in its 12th year, the competition will award $5,000 each to up to five faculty projects.
Unlike other opportunities to honor an instructor’s overall teaching excellence, this prize draws attention to specific innovations that improve student learning.
Such innovations include new approaches to creating inclusive classrooms, new uses of instructional technology, new ways to engage students in the learning process, new approaches to student collaborations, or new methods for replicating the advantages of a small course in a large lecture.
“One of the most satisfying things about being a member of the university community is seeing the creativity, joy and dedication that the faculty bring to the art and science of teaching and learning. It is spectacular,” Vice Provost James Hilton said.
“Each year, our faculty and students push the boundaries in their quest to enhance learning, and each year, we honor that quest through the Provost’s Teaching Innovation Prize.”
The awards will be announced May 4 at the annual, campuswide Enriching Scholarship conference.
