Photo stories: Bonsai on display at Gardens

The Matthaei Botanical Gardens will host the Ann Arbor Bonsai Society’s annual show Aug. 27-28 from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults. Children age 16 and younger are admitted free.

Besides the more than 100 trees entered in the show, says Connie Bailie (above), senior horticultural assistant at the Gardens, visitors throughout the year can enjoy a rotating display of the Gardens’ Bonsai in the conservatory’s lobby. This collection includes deciduous, tropical, hardy and coniferous trees, and a 75-year-old scotch pine. The lobby exhibition is free. Photos by Marcia L. Ledford, U-M Photo Services
