10,000-year-old woman gets facelift

‘Ancient Americans: One Woman’s 10,000-Year Journey,’ a permanent part of the Exhibit Museum of Natural History’s collection, was unveiled at a program June 13. The exhibit documents the recreation of the face and head of a 22-year old woman who l ived 10,000 years ago. Denis Lee, professor of art, reconstructed the skull, which was unearthed recently near Austin, Texas. It is believed to be one of the oldest human skulls found in North America. ‘Essentially, it’s like taking a broken eggshell a nd gluing the pieces back together to get a whole egg,’ Lee says.
