U-M Voices of the Staff clean up at camp
Current and former members of the University of Michigan’s Voices of the Staff program gathered last month for an afternoon of community outreach at Camp North Star Reach in Pinckney. The event marked the program’s second “Half Day of Service” at the camp, which provides cost-free outdoor experiences for children with significant medical needs. The reunion allowed staff to channel their collective effort to provide several hours of service activities to help prepare the camp for its seasonal opening in June. Nearly 50 staff members helped by cleaning windows, weeding flowerbeds, spreading mulch, splitting wood, and painting “moose tracks” around the camp. Voices of the Staff is the university’s flagship employee engagement program, designed to give staff a voice in university operations and foster a culture of workplace improvement through service.
U-M to update core administrative technology systems
U-M has launched a multi-year effort to modernize its core business systems, marking a significant step toward streamlining institutional management of finances, human resources and student administration. The initiative will replace the university’s legacy Enterprise Resource Planning, or ERP, systems, such as M-Pathways, with a modern, cloud-based platform designed to better support campus operations today and into the future. These systems are used by thousands of faculty and staff across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses and Michigan Medicine, including its regional network. M-Pathways has served U-M for more than two decades and has become increasingly complex and costly to maintain. It requires heavy customization and maintenance, and the vendor plans to end support for the product. Meanwhile, broader changes in higher education and healthcare have accelerated the shift toward more flexible, secure and data-driven platforms. A modern ERP system would help standardize processes, improve data access and reporting, and reduce the burden of maintaining highly customized legacy technology. ERP vendors will present their systems during demonstrations scheduled for the weeks of June 15 and June 22. The hybrid sessions are available to community members across all campuses and Michigan Medicine and will provide an opportunity to view system capabilities, ask questions and share feedback. The sessions will offer limited in-person seating. Find registration information at erp.umich.edu.
Become an MHealthy Champion and support workplace well-being
Applications are open now through July 31 for active, benefits-eligible employees who want to become an MHealthy Champion for their department, unit or area. Employees working in-person, remote or hybrid are encouraged to apply. “MHealthy Champions directly improve individual, team and university well-being, enhance work environments and enrich our communities,” said Karen Schmidt, senior director of Health and Well-being Services at MHealthy. “The university recently announced that Human Health and Well-being will serve as the next theme year as part of the Look to Michigan campaign. Champions are one of the most effective ways to embed a culture of well-being and support this vision.” Champions spend approximately one or two hours per month in the role over a two-year term. With MHealthy’s guidance and their supervisor’s support, champions:
- Partner with MHealthy to tailor activities for their area.
- Support their area’s health and well-being goals.
- Communicate opportunities and encourage participation in well-being activities and programs.
- Help foster connection in today’s work environment.
- Complete champion steps to qualify for program and event funding.
Employees interested in becoming an MHealthy Champion should apply by July 31. Before accepting the application, MHealthy will contact the candidate’s supervisor for approval. Learn more or apply to be an MHealthy Champion. Email questions to [email protected].
