New MHealthy program encourages positive social experiences

Faculty and staff are encouraged to join Positive Connections, a new MHealthy program that encourages positive social experiences, known as “high-quality connections.”

Participants in the online program, which launches Oct. 21, are encouraged to “connect and reflect” with others in their lives.

“Building meaningful social connections is one of the most powerful ways to enhance our health and life satisfaction,” said Kelcey Stratton, chief behavioral health strategist at University Human Resources. “When we take the time to intentionally connect with others, whether through a heartfelt conversation or a simple act of kindness, we create a supportive and enriching environment for everyone involved.”

Positive Connections participants will engage in activities based on five research-based strategies: expressing gratitude, strengths-spotting, active constructive responding, kindness in relationships, and creating moments of play.

The program is easy to follow, with participants watching an introductory video, adding the names of people they wish to connect with, planning their activities, and logging their experiences on the MHealthy portal.

“This program is designed to be fun and flexible, allowing you to choose how you want to connect,” Stratton said. “Whether it’s sharing a meal, giving a compliment, or simply acknowledging someone’s effort, these small but meaningful interactions can make a big difference.”

The Positive Connections program will run for six weeks, from Oct. 21 to Dec. 1. Registration opens Oct. 7 and will remain open throughout the program. This program is available to all active, benefits-eligible employees (excluding those only eligible for the U-M GradCare health plan) and their spouse/other qualified adult (enrolled in a U-M health plan). Employees are encouraged to sign up early to start experiencing the benefits of enhanced social connections.
