University of Michigan faculty and staff will be able to talk to financial professionals, get money questions answered and learn about university and community resources to support financial well-being at a Financial Well-being Resource Fair on Aug. 7.
The fair will take place 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the University Hospital Towsley Lobby.
Dealing with money matters can feel intimidating and a little stressful. According to a recent survey from MarketWatch, personal finances continue to be a leading cause of stress for many. Nearly nine in 10 people feel financial stress, with 65% stating their finances are the most stressful aspect of their life.
“Financial well-being is an important part of your overall personal well-being,” said Alena Williams, health risk reductions program manager for MHealthy. “When there is uncertainty around finances or a sense of worry about the future, it can impact your physical and mental health, your sleep, your relationships with loved ones and your performance at work.”
The fair will feature experts available to discuss:
- Budgeting.
- Credit report review.
- Home buying.
- General saving and saving for college.
- Identity theft and financial-fraud prevention.
- Retirement planning.
- Financial counseling and assistance.
Onsite representatives will include U-M Credit Union, Financial Empowerment Center of Washtenaw County, MHealthy Resource Coach Program, Fidelity, TIAA, Housing Bureau for Seniors, Michigan Education Savings Program, My Future Fund and more.
The event is a collaboration between MHealthy and the U-M Credit Union.
The resource fair also includes light snacks, refreshments and opportunities to enter hourly drawings for $25 gift cards sponsored by MHealthy. U-M Credit Union also will conduct a gift card giveaway.
