Tiffany window

The Fox Memorial Window by Tiffany, at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, was a gift of brothers E. Crofton Fox (a U-M student 1871-73) and Charles Fox (U-M class of 1875) of Grand Rapids, in memory of their father, and two brothers who also were U-M students. The window was designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany and installed in the north wall in 1890. The window was restored in 2006-08. — Photo courtesy Bentley Historical Library.

This month in history (92 years ago)

William Howard Taft, the country’s 27th president (1909-13), spoke on campus twice after leaving the presidency. He stated support for the League of Nations in a 1915 speech at Hill Auditorium. When Taft returned in January 1920, university policy prohibited blatantly political speeches at Hill. Taft instead advocated the role of unions in American labor. — From “Hail to the Chief, Presidential Visits to the University of Michigan.”
