Passenger pigeon’s extinction 100 years ago was call to action

It sounded like distant thunder rolling.

Even on a sunny, languid day, blue skies could turn dark amidst a swirl of noise and flapping wings. The passenger pigeon, known to migrate in flocks of millions to find food, might fill the sky for days.

Alumnus Raoul Wallenberg honored with Congressional Gold Medal

In a rare posthumous ceremony, U-M alumnus Raoul Wallenberg was presented with the Congressional Gold Medal on June 9 in honor of his heroism during the Holocaust.

The award was presented to Wallenberg's sister, Nina Lagergren, during a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol.
