    EMU associate dean tapped to lead UM-Flint education school

    Beth Kubitskey, an associate dean at Eastern Michigan University and longtime advocate for the improvement of K-12 teaching and learning in Michigan, has been selected as dean of the School of Education and Human Services at UM-Flint.

    Donald R. Kinder is the 2022 Henry Russel Lecturer, U-M’s highest honor for senior members of its active faculty. Four other faculty members will receive Henry Russel Awards.

    The Board of Regents is scheduled to meet virtually at 2 p.m. July 15, consistent with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive directive regarding public meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    U-M extends Go Blue Guarantee, $15 minimum wage to all campuses

    The university will extend its Go Blue Guarantee offering free tuition for qualifying Michigan residents to the Dearborn and Flint campuses. Regents also enacted a $15-an-hour minimum wage for permanent workers.

    Michigan Medicine has reported projected positive fiscal year-end results, with an anticipated 6.5 percent — or $339.8 million — operating margin on forecasted operating revenues of $5.2 billion.

    The Board of Regents affirmed UM-Dearborn’s commitment to student success, academic excellence and creating access and opportunity for qualified students with the approval of the university’s $155 million 2021-22 general fund operating budget.

    Undergraduate students at UM-Flint will not see a tuition increase during the coming academic year — and some will pay no tuition at all — as the university reaffirms its ongoing commitment to affordability and access for all students.

    Athletics expects to mitigate COVID-19 revenue losses in FY ’22

    The U-M athletic department expects a budget deficit of $62.9 million for the current fiscal year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and projects a surplus of $1.4 million for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
