U.S. News lists U-M among country’s top four public universities

The University of Michigan remains among the nation’s best public universities according to the 2019 U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges rankings released Monday.

Coming in at No. 4 among public universities, U-M follows the University of California-Los Angeles, University of California-Berkeley and the University of Virginia.

The University of Michigan is ranked No. 4 on Kiplinger's list of 100 Best Values in Public Colleges, moving up one spot from last year.

The ranking highlights colleges and universities that combine outstanding education with economic value.

Since 2010, U-M has moved from No. 19 to No. 4 among public colleges.

U-M was ranked as the second U.S. public university among more than 1,000 institutions in the United States.

The ranking looked at 711 colleges and evaluated them on 27 factors within three broad categories: educational quality, affordability and alumni success.

The University of Michigan maintained its ranking as the top U.S. public university in the QS World University Rankings for 2017-18, and ranked 21st among all institutions on the list, moving up two spots from last year in the ranking released Thursday.
