   Charlotte Chan, assistant professor of mathematics in LSA, was awarded a 2022 Sloan Research Fellowship for her work in representation theory, the study of symmetries using linear algebra.

   Donald Akers Jones, 90, beloved and treasured husband, father, grandfather and friend, and retired U-M math professor, died in his home in Corvallis, Oregon, on June 25.

   Peter Larkin Duren, professor emeritus of mathematics at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, died July 10 in Superior Township, Michigan, after a long and courageous struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
