Santa J. Ono, an accomplished biomedical researcher and the president and vice chancellor of the University of British Columbia, has been named the 15th president of the University of Michigan.

Regent Paul Brown, a Democrat from northern Michigan, will chair the Board of Regents for the coming year. Regent Sarah Hubbard, a Republican from Okemos, will serve as vice chair.

Schlissel says he will end U-M presidency in June 2023
President Mark Schlissel has announced he will end his service as president in June 2023, one year earlier than his previously announced appointment. He said the announcement will “support a smooth and thoughtful leadership transition for the university.”
