    In an effort to better support the mental well-being of students and faculty, U-M leaders have proposed extending the break between fall and winter terms for the 2023-24 academic year by an additional week.

    Provost Laurie K. McCauley has been recommended for a full term as U-M’s chief academic and budgetary officer. If approved by the Board of Regents, McCauley, who was first appointed last May, would serve through June 2027.

    Obituary — Veronica Latta Smith

    Regent Emerita Veronica Latta Smith, died peacefully at her Grosse Ile, Michigan, home Nov. 13. She was 97. In 1984, she was elected to the Board of Regents, and was known as the “Students’ Regent.”

    White, Behm re-elected to seats on Board of Regents

    Incumbent Democrats Katherine E. White and Michael J. Behm have been re-elected to eight-year terms on the Board of Regents, drawing 25.16% and 24.56% of the statewide vote, respectively.
