Study suggests that being too clean can make people sick

Regents extend Coleman’s contract through July 2014
Mary Sue Coleman will serve as president of U-M for an additional two years beyond her current appointment, extending her contract through July 2014. The Board of Regents unanimously approved the extension at its Nov. 18 meeting.

Three to receive honorary degrees at Winter Commencement
Daniel Kahneman, recipient of the 2002 Nobel Prize in economic sciences, will receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the university and serve as keynote speaker for the exercises to be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 19 in Crisler Arena. Also receiving honorary degrees at the ceremony are astronomer Sandra Faber, honorary Doctor of Science degree, and investment manager Charlie Munger, honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

Faculty find storytelling helps students learn
Storytelling, that traditional staple of the kindergarten or pre-school classroom, isn’t just for the youngest students, say some U-M instructors who are discovering the value of stories to aid college student instruction. David Chesney, a lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, says storytelling illustrates important points, helps students remember content and adds variety to a long lecture.

More evidence: Melanoma does not conform to cancer stem cell model
