Big House wellness

NCRB ceremony

University and student leaders cut a ceremonial ribbon Thursday to re-open the North Campus Recreation Building after a 16-month renovation. In-class exercise

As childhood obesity rates rise and physical education offerings dwindle, elementary schools keep searching for ways to incorporate the federally mandated half-hour of physical activity into the school day. In this video, Rebecca Hasson, associate professor of kinesiology and nutritional sciences, talks about a U-M effort to encourage in-class exercise breaks for elementary children.

Technology meets accessibility

A group of U-M students has turned the belief that information is power into a tool to help people with disabilities know which restaurants, stores, libraries, concerts and other public places are barrier-free before they go. The Access for All website — now serving Jackson, Hillsdale and Lenawee counties — is one of at least 25 projects to grow out of the Citizen Interactive Design program, a multi-disciplinary course at the School of Information. In this video, Scott TenBrink, CID project manager, talks about Access for All and how it’s making a difference.

Gifts of Art Employee Art Exhibition

Throughout the year, Michigan Medicine is home to innovative and eye-catching art exhibitions and galleries, ranging from photographs to sculptures and ceramics. But for a few months each fall, one of the Gifts of Art galleries displays work by Michigan Medicine team members. The 2018 Gifts of Art Employee Art Exhibition is now underway, showcasing more than 100 pieces of art created by faculty, staff, students, volunteers and family members. Aspirnauts

The Aspirnaut Summer Research Internship Program at U-M strives to expand interest in basic science research by bringing high school students from under-resourced areas to U-M to become immersed in a hands-on science laboratory experience. In this video, Roger Cone, director of the Life Sciences Institute, describes how the program seeks to motivate students to pursue further education and careers in STEM fields.
