    Virtual world for sick kids

    Sick kids will get to visit the Big House without leaving their rooms at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. They may also hang out with dinosaurs, ride roller coasters or even visit the moon. These are just some of the types of experiences made possible by the new Harbaugh Fund, which will support activities led by the hospital’s Child and Family Life team. First on the list: Virtual reality viewers for every young patient. This video shows how the viewers work using a smartphone and virtual reality apps.

    UMHS employee art exhibit

    “Detroit at Dusk” by Vanessa Rhoads, an administrative assistant in the Department of Pediatric Nephrology, was named the People’s Choice award winner in the U-M Health System’s Gifts of Art Employee Art Exhibition. It is among the 114 pieces submitted by UMHS faculty, staff, students, volunteers and family members that are on display in the Gifts of Art Gallery on the first floor of Taubman Center through Dec. 11.     CVC’s piano man

    Every weekday around 1:30 p.m., Errick Thomas sits down at the grand piano in the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, takes a deep breath and plays whatever comes to mind. A patient services associate at the CVC, Thomas gives up his lunch break most afternoons to sit at the piano and entertain those who pass by. “I can eat after work,” Thomas said. “I’d rather be out there when our patient population is the highest.
