This fall, new students will have an entire week to get acquainted with the University, thanks to Welcome to Michigan ’93, a new program featuring academic welcomes, informational workshops, tours, open houses, social events and recreational activities.
The program will kick off Thursday (Sept. 2), the day residence halls open, and run until Sept. 9, the first day of fall term classes.
“Welcome to Michigan ’93 is a unique opportunity to provide new students with a warm welcome to the University community,” says program coordinator Deb Moriarty. “We hope it will serve as a bridge between summer orientation and the start of classes, one that encourages students to become more familiar with the campus and all that it has to offer.”
Among events and programs scheduled are: a new student welcome center in the Michigan Union (Sept. 2–4); academic welcome programs by LS&A, the School of Natural Resources and Environment and College of Engineering (Sept. 3) and the School of Music (Sept. 8); a campuswide welcome kick-off featuring a pep rally and musical concert at the Track and Tennis Stadium (Sept. 3); U-M football game vs. Washington State (Sept. 4); campuswide volleyball tournament (Sept. 5–8); Campus America Tour, a festival at
