Members of New York’s Pregones Theater, a Latino touring company founded in 1979, will conduct campus workshops, present lectures and give performances Sept. 20–24 during the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Theater director Rosalba Rolon and associate director Alvan Colon Lespier, both King/Chavez/Parks Visiting Professors, will head the Pregones contingent during its five-day campus stay.

The group will conduct workshops on “Image Theater” at 1 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 20) and on “From Narrative to the Stage” at 1 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 21), both to be held in the Michigan Union’s Wolverine Room. Also, Pregones members will collaborate in a workshop with the Western Wayne Players, a prison theater group, at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Western Wayne Correctional Facility in Plymouth.

On Friday (Sept. 22), the Pregones company will perform “Cuentacuentos of the Caribbean” at 9:30 a.m. at Bach Open Elementary School in Ann Arbor; take part in a brown bag lunch at the American culture program at noon; present a public lecture on “Pregones and Latino Theater Today” at 4 p.m. in the Union’s Pendleton Room; and discuss the stage adaptation of selected works at 7:30 p.m. at Borders Books Shop.

The group will end its visit with a performance of “Translated Woman,” adapted from the writings of Ruth Behar, prof. of anthropology and of women’s studies, at 3 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 24) at the Mendelssohn Theater. For ticket information, call 763-8587.
