United Way is at 33 percent of goal

The University’s United Way Campaign has reached more than 33 percent of its goal with three weeks remaining in the campaign. Amount goals have been reached by 15 University units and 14 units have attained their goals for number of participating empl oyees. Five units have reached both and will receive the gold award.

The University’s goal of $1 million will help fund 42 agencies that provide programs and services to Washtenaw County residents. In 1996, those agencies provided:

More than 1 million pounds of food through countywide programs.

More than 80,000 meals to the frail elderly and homebound.

More than 50,000 nights of emergency shelter.

19,760 days of child care for 125 children from low income, single-parent families.

Placement and counseling on adoption and foster care services.

8,000 days of after-school care for 160 children from low-income families. The U-M United Way Campaign ends Oct. 31.
