United Way campaign begins today

A traditional pot pie luncheon that is expected to draw more than 200 supporters of the University’s United Way campaign is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. today (Sept. 19) in the Michigan League Ballroom.

The University’s goal for the campaign is $1 million, $50,000 more than last year’s successful campaign. To record progress, a giant ther-mometer will be placed in front of the Michigan Union and updated weekly through the end of the campaign, slated for Nov. 3.

University campaign chair Maureen A. Hartford, vice president for student affairs, is speaking to the volunteers, and Vincent Buccirosso, president of the Washtenaw United Way for the past nine years, will discuss the $7.4 million county campaign and the part the University can play in it.

United Way provides funding for more than 100 area agencies.
