Union staff nominees sought for police oversight committee

Topics:

Nominations are being sought for an election to fill the union staff representative position on the University of Michigan’s Police Department Oversight Committee.

The Police Department Oversight Committee considers grievances against any police officer or the Police Department. It reports its findings and recommendations to the Executive Director, Division of Public Safety and Security.

The six-member committee is comprised of two student members, two faculty members (one Senate faculty and one non-Senate faculty), and two staff members (one union and one non-union representative), who are nominated and elected by their peers for two-year terms.

Members of AFSCME, HOA, IUOE, MNA and Skilled Trades may nominate themselves or another member of these unions to serve on the committee for the term July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2021.

Nominations may be submitted through May 24 on the University Human Resources website.

University Human Resources is conducting this election, which will take place June 10-14.
