Ulsoy named to William Clay Ford Professorship
A. Galip Ulsoy, professor of mechanical engineering and applied mechanics, will hold the William Clay Ford Professorship of Manufacturing. His appointment, effective Jan. 1, was approved by the Regents at their December meeting.
The Ford Professorship was established by a grant of $1 million from the Ford Motor Co. “to provide funds for research and educational initiatives in expanding the presence of manufacturing-related research and course work in business and engineering,” said Glenn F. Knoll, interim dean of the College of Engineering.
“Prof. Ulsoy has an outstanding record in teaching and research. He is interested in the dynamic modeling, analysis and control of mechanical systems, particularly manufacturing systems. He has made contributions to the mechanics of axially moving elastic systems, control system design, manufacturing systems, automotive systems, and other engineering application areas.”
Ulsoy, who joined the faculty in 1980, has served as associate chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics and as chair of the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Program.
