U-M vehicles parked in violation will be fined

Since Feb. 1, University vehicles parked in violation of the U-M’s parking ordinances have received only a warning notice, but beginning March 1 they will be ticketed and fined, according to Paul Spradlin, interim associate vice president for business operations.

University service and business vehicles will be subject to a $20 fine, payable by the department or unit to which the vehicle is assigned if they are parked in restricted areas, and U-M vehicles parked in handicapped areas will be assessed a $100 fine. Personal vehicles using the business vehicle hang tag and violating U-M parking ordinances or rules and regulations will be solely responsible for payment of any fine.

The policy has been made necessary by continued violations of the current parking ordinances concerning U-M business and service vehicle parking, Spradlin notes.
