The Diag and much of Ingalls Mall were filled as students and other U-M community members turned out to watch the moon move between Earth and the sun April 8, creating a solar eclipse. It was one of various campus locations where people donned protective eyewear and watched the rare celestial show.
While the eclipse was not quite total for viewers on the Ann Arbor campus, more than 50 students traveled to Ohio to view the total solar eclipse at the University of Toledo in an event co-sponsored by the Student Astronomical Society and the Society of Physics Students.
