The University of Michigan is calling on faculty, staff and students to showcase their expertise and defend its title in the Big Ten Academic Alliance Data Visualization Championship. The submission deadline is Jan. 15, 2025.
The competition, part of Love Data Week 2025, invites participants to create compelling data visualizations and present them against entries from other Big Ten institutions.

Love Data Week, which runs from Feb. 10-14, is an international celebration of data that emphasizes the importance of data management and visualization.
The competition is open to all U-M faculty, staff and students, giving them the chance to highlight their work and bring a championship to U-M.
“The best way to build up and show off data visualization skills is to do challenges like the Love Data Week Data Viz Competition,” said Elsie Lee-Robbins, the 2024 BTAA Data Visualization Championship student title holder and a recent doctoral graduate from the School of Information.
“Creativity is even more fun within the constraints of a challenge.”
Faculty and staff can submit an existing visualization that celebrates U-M or one of their projects, while students will be provided with a data set and challenged to create an innovative data visualization.
A panel of judges will select the top U-M entries. Winners will receive prizes, including gift cards from the U-M Tech Shop, and then compete at the national level.
