The University of Michigan plans to build a new parking structure on Zina Pitcher Place in support of patients and operations on the Medical Campus near the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Pavilion.

The Board of Regents approved the $35 million project at its meeting Oct. 17. Funding will be provided by resources from U-M Health and Logistics, Transportation & Parking.

The 570-space parking structure will be built over an existing 50-space surface lot and the site currently occupied by the Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience Institute building, which is being demolished.

The architectural firm of Walker Consultants will design the project. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the winter of 2026.

“We are very happy that this Zina Pitcher garage will support the additional employee and patient parking needs that come with the opening of the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion in late 2025,” said Marschall S. Runge, CEO of Michigan Medicine, dean of the Medical School and executive vice president of medical affairs for U-M.

“We expect this will help address increasing demand for additional parking spaces from our patients and employees. We hope these 570 additional places to park will improve everyone’s experience on our Medical Campus.”
