More than 10,000 donors supported the University of Michigan’s seventh Giving Blueday, a 24-hour celebration of giving on March 10.
Throughout the day, donors supported the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses and Michigan Medicine, contributing gifts of all sizes to causes of their choice. This year, donors gave more than $4.6 million to the university on Giving Blueday.

More than 100 student organizations such as the Black Student Union, the Graham Student Sustainability Coalition, and Women’s Club Rugby raised funds for their causes. The number of student organizations fundraising on Giving Blueday rose for the sixth straight year.
“The Michigan community is strongest when we come together,” said Tom Baird, vice president for development. “On Giving Blueday, thousands of donors from across the globe united to support the causes they care most about at Michigan, and their generosity will help enhance U-M’s public mission to serve the world through education, research and patient care.”
LSA and Student Life received the most donors through the Giving Blueday website.
This year, 18 different challenges encouraged people to make donations. Donors who posted about Giving Blueday on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram had a chance to increase their donation by receiving a match. Student organizations and causes such as U-M Solar Car Team and the Wolverine Support Network, among others, won giving challenges throughout the day.
Each year, Giving Blueday focuses on expanding the university’s community of donors. Last Giving Blueday, in 2019, when U-M’s day of giving was on Giving Tuesday just after Thanksgiving, more than 12,000 donors supported the university in just 24 hours, raising more than $4.2 million.
