U-M launches new website to integrate compliance resources

The University of Michigan’s Ethics, Integrity and Compliance website makes it easier to learn about compliance activities across the university and to report concerns through the existing compliance hotline.

“Thanks to the diligence of the faculty, staff and students of this university, U-M’s reputation is built on a foundation of integrity,” said President Mark Schlissel. “It’s up to each of us to continue those high standards.”

The new website was developed by the Office of the Vice President and General Counsel, and Michigan Creative, incorporating user feedback and input from compliance officers across the university. It’s designed to make it easier to find contact information for and links to topic-specific compliance offices across U-M’s three campuses and Michigan Medicine.

Also included are training and educational resources and quick links to ask questions of a university compliance coordinator or to report concerns through the university’s long-standing compliance hotline.

“Following all laws, applicable regulatory requirements and university policy is the responsibility of each employee,” said Tim Lynch, vice president and general counsel. “It’s about doing the right thing, always, and maintaining the highest standards as we advance the University of Michigan’s public mission.”

Lab protocols, campus safety, protecting privacy and data, preventing financial fraud and conflicts of interests are among the broad topics covered on the website.

Lynch said understanding roles and responsibilities in such a complex organization helps maintain an environment of excellence where everyone can thrive. “Learn about obligations, ask questions and speak up about concerns. It’s up to us.”
