The University of Michigan was ranked as the top U.S. public university in the latest QS World University Rankings for 2021. U-M has maintained its top ranking since 2016.

U-M ranked 21st overall among more than 1,000 institutions on the list, which was released June 10.
The QS World University Rankings, launched in 2004, are based on six factors: academic reputation (40 percent), employer reputation (10 percent), student-faculty ratio (20 percent), citations per faculty (20 percent), proportion of international faculty (5 percent) and proportion of international students (5 percent).
U-M is one of two U.S. public universities making the top 30, a list that also included 13 private U.S. universities. The other public U.S. university in the top 30 is the University of California, Berkeley at No. 30.
