More than 125,000 donors made gifts to the university totaling $440.7 million in cash and pledge payments during fiscal year 2016, the highest total of any fiscal year, says Vice President for Development Jerry May.
May provided the update on giving at the Sept. 15 Board of Regents meeting. He also provided an update on the university’s Victors for Michigan campaign, which was launched in 2013 with a goal of raising $4 billion, including $1 billion for student support.
So far giving to the campaign has totaled almost $3.5 billion, 87.5 percent of the campaign goal. In support for students, donors have made gifts totaling $601 million, plus $215 million in new bequest intentions.
May said that during the current campaign, U-M students themselves have given $1 million to support various programs and causes at U-M.
He noted that donors’ fiscal-year cash gifts have significantly increased over the last four decades, from $18.1 million in 1976 to $440.7 million in FY 2016, which ended June 30.
