U-M-D student team places in finals

A team of four undergraduates from the U-M-Dearborn’s School of Management placed among the six finalist teams in the North American Intercollegiate Business Case Competition, held Oct. 23-26 in Plano, Texas.

Members of the team were Terry Bedzyk, Will Bonnici, Dianne Jansen and Martin Olejnik. They were coached by Al Schrader, professor of organization behavior, School of Management.

Students were asked to function as a project team in an “EDS-like organization” and analyze an extremely complex, politically sensitive program being considered by the firm. “These are terribly able, talented young people,” said Schrader. “They can analyze complex business problems and identify practical solutions to them that have benefit to their employees and society at large. It is gratifying to see these kids strut their stuff and perform so successfully.” The U-M team competed with 42 teams from the United States, Mexico and Canada during the three-day invitational. The team from Queen’s University placed first.

This was the first time that U-M-Dearborn was invited to send a team, Schrader said, and the competition was stiff: “These are the top students in business schools in North America. Our kids were ecstatic that they were picked as finalists.”
