The University of Michigan’s new winter semester blood drive competition, We Challenge You!, is underway and will run through Feb. 27.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to donate blood as part of the contest with Michigan State, Penn State and Oakland universities, and the University of Notre Dame. We Challenge You! replaces the Mitten Matchup competition from past years.
Participants are urged to make an appointment to donate on the American Red Cross website using the sponsor code ‘goblue.’
Presenting donors will receive an American Red Cross T-shirt and a special offer from Bruegger’s Bagels, while supplies last. Donors may enter a raffle for gift cards to local businesses and other prizes.
The American Red Cross has launched a new tool called Rapid Pass, which allows donors to complete their donation quicker by completing some steps before arriving at the blood drive.
Due to blood donation eligibility requirements set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the American Red Cross, not everyone will be able to donate. However, all of the drives aim to provide an inclusive atmosphere. Learn more about blood donation requirements.
Donors are asked to eat iron rich foods and drink plenty of water before donating so they are healthy on the day of their donation.
