Music, films, lectures, poetry and theater will be featured as part of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration Sept. 15–Oct. 17. This year’s theme is “500 Years After: the Emergence of a Cultural Mosaic.”
Highlights include presentations by U.S. Surgeon General Antonia Novello, Chicana author and poet Ana Castillo, and a Latino extravaganza with performances by Los Hijos de Aztlan and groups representing Argentina, Espana, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
The celebration begins with a reception and presentation by Antonio Flores, director of support services, Student Financial Assistance, Michigan Department of Education, at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 in the Michigan League Ballroom. He will discuss “Cultural Diversity in Higher Education Curriculum.”
