Outdoor canopies will return to the Ann Arbor campus this year, giving student- and university-sponsored organizations, and departments and units a place to hold events.
MORE INFORMATION
The two unfurnished canopies — one at Gerstacker Grove on North Campus and the other at Ingalls Mall North on Central Campus — will be available from April 2-Oct. 27. They must be reserved in advance.
U-M launched the program in 2020 when it erected several canopies around campus to give students and others a safe place to study, take a break and hold events amid new limits on the use of indoor spaces brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With a shift toward “pandemic recovery” mode, university officials decided to bring back a smaller number of canopies this year as the campus adjusts to changing public health measures and comfort levels.
Because the canopies will be unfurnished, event organizers will be responsible for all vendor coordination, such as furniture rental and event set-up.
The 30-by-75-foot canopy on North Campus can be reserved through the Center for Campus Involvement. The 60-by-120-foot canopy on Central Campus can be reserved through Facilities & Operations.
