Turner Clinic offers education and support groups

Turner Geriatric Clinic sponsors a full range of ongoing education and support groups for members of the community, with a priority on providing services to older adults. Among the groups meeting currently are:

The Medicare Assistance Program.
A free, weekly service (by appointment) for Medicare beneficiaries is available 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays. Volunteers provide assistance with questions about doctor and hospital bills, Medicare, health insurance and more.

Caring for Aging Relatives.
Two groups provide support and information to assist in providing care for aging relatives. The groups meet 6-8 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month; and noon-1:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month.

Diabetes Support Group.
This is a support and information group for older adult diabetics. The group meets 1:30-3 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month.

GLOW (Gays/Lesbians: Older and Wiser).
GLOW meets 11 a.m.-1 p.m. the first Saturday of the month in the Turner Conference Room and provides participants with support, information and discussion. Call 936-5962 for information. Membership is confidential.

Grief Support.
A group for parents who have lost an adult child, meets 4-5:30 p.m. Thursdays April 3-May 15, at Ann Arbor Hospice.

Low Vision Support Group.
The group, facilitated by a social worker and a peer counselor, meets 1-3 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at Cranbrook Towers. The group provides information, support and social opportunity. For information, call 761-2298.

Intergenerational Women’s Group.
The group meets 10 a.m.-noon on Tuesdays in Turner Conference Room and gives women of all ages a chance to explore areas of mutual interest.

Several groups afford older adults opportunities to make new friends and participate in interesting conversation and activities.
