Tribute to Chavez will be April 12
Nationally syndicated columnists Patrisia Gonzales and Roberto Rodriguez, whose “Latino Spectrum” is carried by dozens of newspapers nationwide, will lead a ceremony of remembrance and give a free, public talk in honor of the late Cesar Chavez at 1:30 p.m. April 12 in the Michigan League’s Henderson Room.
Sponsored by the Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives, the ceremony and lecture will be followed by a reception at 3 p.m. at the same location.
In addition to their syndicated column, Gonzales and Rodriguez can be heard on national radio programs on Radio Bilingue and Pacifica News Network. They are currently completing a book on the racial and cultural mix in America, and a collection of their columns is scheduled for release early next year.
Gonzales, who teaches journalism at the University of Texas, El Paso, has worked as a reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Tucson Citizen and Corpus Christi Caller, and is writing a book on the emerging human rights movement in Mexico.
Rodriguez, a senior writer for Black Issues in Higher Education , has written for the Washington Post, USA Today and La Opinion, the nation’s largest Spanish-language daily. He also has written a book on police brutality and has another on the same topic due out next year.
