Tri-Campus Committee to examine Rackham programs

Earl Lewis, dean of the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies, has formed a Tri-Campus committee to examine the relationships among Rackham programs on the three U-M campuses. The Committee is asked to provide written findings and recommendations concerning:
• The missions and directions of Rackham programs on the three campuses;
• The significance and meaning of a Rackham degree;
• The advantages and disadvantages of Rackham affiliation in each campus setting; and
• Effective administrative and academic arrangements for the future of Rackham programs on each campus.
Meetings will be held on all three campuses to encourage access to anyone who wishes to speak to the Committee. The group is chaired by Tony England, professor of electrical engineering and computer science, and of atmospheric, oceanic and space sciences, and former dean of the Graduate School. Staff support will be provided by Rackham Assistant Dean Homer Rose. Other members include:
Ann Arbor campus: Carl Simon, professor of mathematics, of economics and of public policy; Julie Ellison, associate vice president for research and professor of English; and graduate student Anne Reeves, president of Rackham Student Government.
U-M-Dearborn: Malayappan Shridhar, chair and professor of electrical and computer engineering; Donald Rossin, assistant professor of operations management; and graduate student Joe Scislowicz.
U-M-Flint: Suzanne Selig, professor of health care, director of the Health Care Department, and coordinator of the School of Health Professions and Studies; Frederic Svoboda, chair and professor of English; and graduate student Jeffrey Mansour.
A final report is to be provided by the end of May. The committee solicits comments on any element of its charge or on related matters from faculty and students.
