Note: As of Friday, May 8, this project has been deferred until 2016.
A project to make necessary repairs to the elevator lobby and stairs, and to replace stairwell handrails in the Thompson Street Parking Structure is scheduled to begin Monday with completion expected later this summer.
The work is scheduled to be completed in phases and only the first phase — Monday until May 25 — will affect weekday parking. No work will be done during the July 17-19 weekend, due to the Ann Arbor Art Fairs.
The work is scheduled as follows:
• Phase I-A — 6 a.m. Monday through 6 a.m. May 25; parking closed on levels 5-8.
• Phase I-B — 6 p.m. June 12 through 6 a.m. June 15, and 6 p.m. June 19 through 6 a.m. June 22; both stairwells closed on levels 1-4, parking closed on levels 2-8.
• Phase II — Four consecutive weekends, 6 p.m. Fridays through 6 a.m. Mondays, dates to be determined (per delivery of hand rails); parking closed on levels 2-8.
• Phase III — Two consecutive weekends, 6 p.m. Fridays through 6 a.m. Mondays, dates to be determined, (after Phase II complete); parking closed on levels 2-8.
It is recommended that those who use the Thompson Structure consider parking on the Athletic Campus, especially during Phase I-A. Orange lots SC6, SC7 and SC36 have unused capacity. U-M commuter buses serve the Athletic Campus every 10, 11 or 15 minutes, depending on the time of day or evening.
