Stewart will be Heller Professor

Prof. Paul Stewart will hold the Catherine B. Heller Collegiate Professorship of Art, effective May 1. His appointment was approved by the Regents at their April meeting.

“A prolific artist who is internationally recognized, Prof. Stewart has been included in Who’s Who in American Art since 1984,” said Allen Samuels, dean of the School of Art. “He has exhibited widely, and his art works have been included in hundreds of national and international shows for which he has received numerous awards.

“An avid researcher in printmaking, Prof. Stewart is the recipient of three Rackham Research grants and an Office of the Vice President for Research grant.”

Samuels also noted that Stewart’s work is included in many prestigious museums and private collections all over the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; the Library of Congress; and the Gallery of Modern Art, Bureau for Artistic Exhibitions, Katowice, Poland.

Stewart joined the U-M in 1973.
