Starbucks will bring its signature flavors to the Michigan Union when it officially opens there Tuesday.
University Unions earlier announced a partnership with Starbucks, which has proven to be very popular among college students.
The company’s selection of handcrafted coffee drinks, sandwiches, salads and pastries, plus the coffee shop’s extended hours, create an attractive new food venue for the Union and the U-M campus community.
“Coffee helps build community, so having Starbucks in the Michigan Union is a natural fit as we think about the Union’s role to bring all students together,” said Susan Pile, director of the Michigan Union.
The first-floor space in the Michigan Union has been given a minor makeover to get set for opening. The distinctive architectural features of the iconic Union, including the windows, arches and brick walls have been maintained, while enhancements will give the space a traditional coffee shop feel.
Students can expect an inviting atmosphere perfect for study, relaxing, or a group meeting.
“Starbucks is very popular for their specialty and seasonal drinks, and having one at the center of campus in the Michigan Union will be welcomed by many students,” said Alex Abdun-Nabi, Michigan Union Board of Representatives chair.
The coffee shop is set to open Tuesday with regular hours from 7 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., Monday-Saturday, and 9 a.m.-1:30 a.m. Sunday. Blue Bucks will be accepted.
