Spradlin will be interim associate vice president for business operations

Paul Spradlin photoPaul A. Spradlin, director of plant extension, has been named interim associate vice president for business operations, effective immediately. The vacancy was created after William B. Krumm retired from the University and became vice president and controller at Texas A&M University.

“We’re fortunate that Paul has agreed to serve in this capacity,” says Farris W. Womack, executive vice president and chief financial officer. “He’s one of the most respected individuals on campus, and he brings a wealth of experience to this assignment.”

Spradlin will be responsible for overseeing Plant Operations; Plant Extension; Occupational Safety and Environmental Health; the Department of Public Safety; and Purchasing, Stores and Auxiliary Services.

A career employee, Spradlin celebrated his 44th anniversary with the University on Jan. 21. He has been director of plant extension since 1973, where he has overseen more than $1.5 billion of new construction in the past 10 years alone. Prior to assuming his role with plant extension, Spradlin served as assistant to the vice president for academic affairs and assistant to the dean in the College of LS&A and in the School of Education. He began his career with the University as a laboratory technician, instrument maker and department manager in zoology.

“Paul’s vast experience and leadership abilities will be instrumental in providing continuity and assuring the continued success of the operational functions of the University,” Womack says. “It will be a pleasure to work with him.”

Womack said he expects to begin the search process for Krumm’s successor this month. He hopes to fill the position by mid-summer.
