The U-M will join in the state celebration of “Investing in Ability Week” Oct. 11–17 with a series of public events.
“Investing in Ability Week” promotes employment of people with disabilities by encouraging employers and the general public to focus on a person’s abilities rather than disabilities.

Oct. 12
“Marketing Your Abilities: The Successful Job Seeker’s Perspective.” Successful job seekers with disabilities and employers will share insights on job search strategies, 4–5:30 p.m., Career Planning and Placement (CP&P), 3200 Student Activities Building. Sponsored by CP&P and Services for Students with Disabilities.
Oct. 13
Council for Disability Concerns, annual meeting, 10 a.m., followed by presentation of the James Neubacher Award, 11:15 a.m., Regents Room, Fleming Administration Building. Sponsored by the Council for Disability Concerns and the Affirmative Action Office.
Statewide teleconference titled “Enabling Technology: Michigan Resources,” noon–1:45 p.m. in Room 165, Chrysler Center, will inform individuals about available assistive technology and where to obtain it.
Oct. 14
“Ready or Not, Here it Comes: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),” Brian L. Clapham, ADA coordinator for the University, will show a video about the ADA and answer questions about what the new law means to the U-M, noon–1 p.m., Wolverine Room, Michigan Union. Sponsored by the Affirmative Action Office.
Oct. 15
“The Americans with Disabilities Act: Research and Programmatic Implications.” Clapham and Denise G. Tate, clinical associate professor, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, will provide an overview of the ADA and how it is affecting research activities and program development regarding people with disabilities, noon–1 p.m., Room 1H205, University Hospital. Sponsored by the Department of Physical Medicine and the Affirmative Action Office.
