The Program in Film and Video Studies is presenting a Women in Film Series that features women producers and directors from the entertainment industry. Each artist will screen and discuss her films and filmmaking background at 7:30 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays in January and February in Angell Hall Auditorium.
“We want to show that although there are twice as many men in the field of film today as women, women are doing some of the most credible and innovative work today,” says Prof. Ira Konigsberg, director of the Program in Film and Video Studies.
The free, public series continues Jan. 23 when producer Gladys Nederlander will screen her production of Orpheus Descending (1990). Nederlander has produced 11 Broadway plays and received the Award for Cable Excellence for the television film A Case Of Libel.
On Jan. 30, Yvonne Rainer will screen Privilege, a feature about menopause. Rainer has produced six films, and began her career by integrating live modern dance performances with film.
On Feb. 6, Michelle Citron will screen Pandora, a feature about family and power. Citron has produced, written and directed six award-winning independent films. She is chair of the Department of Radio/Television/Film at Northwestern University.
