The Senate Assembly’s Legal Advisory Council is expected to be up and running by early next year.
The Assembly voted unanimously Oct. 19 to create a Legal Advisory Council to provide information to faculty members involved in disputes that may lead to legal action.
The council will provide faculty members an opportunity to discuss their concerns informally. The council also will maintain a list of attorneys who have indicated a willingness to assist faculty members for reduced or no fees.
“This committee is not authorized to give legal advice, and is not responsible for the quality of legal advice or services offered by any attorney to whom it may refer a faculty or staff member,” states the resolution creating the council.
The Legal Advisory Council will be evaluated after three years.
Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs (SACUA) Chair Ejner J. Jensen said the faculty’s Academic Affairs Advisory Committee has agreed to look at the pool of more than 500 emeritus faculty who might be willing to serve on such an advisory council and make recommendations to SACUA. The selection process should be completed by the end of the year, he added.
