President Santa J. Ono has appointed a 17-member advisory committee to assist in the search for the University of Michigan’s next dean of the Medical School.
Laurie K. McCauley, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, and David Miller, president of U-M Health and executive vice dean of clinical affairs at the Medical School, will co-chair the committee, which includes faculty, staff and students.

The next dean will succeed Marschall S. Runge, who will retire in June after serving as dean of the Medical School since January 2016, and as executive vice president for medical affairs and Michigan Medicine CEO since March 2015.
Miller will succeed Runge as executive vice president for medical affairs and Michigan Medicine CEO, effective July 1.
“The dean role is a critical role in our infrastructure positioned to help shape the future of our medical school, fostering innovation, while upholding our core values,” Ono said in an email to committee members. “I am excited to undertake this important search to continue U-M’s tradition of outstanding educational leadership.”
In addition to McCauley and Miller, the committee includes:
