Search advisory committee for next School of Education dean named

Provost Martha Pollack has appointed an advisory committee to search for a new dean of the School of Education. The search process already has begun.

Annemarie Sullivan Palincsar, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, Jean and Charles R. Walgreen Jr. Professor of Reading and Literacy, and professor of education, SOE, is chairing the committee that has been charged with conducting a broad search and presenting a slate of recommended candidates.

In an email to faculty and staff at the school, Pollack wrote that Dean Deborah Loewenberg Ball would step down June 30, 2016, after a decade of service.

Additional members of the search committee include:

• Alistair Bomphray, doctoral student in educational studies, SOE.

• Susan M. Collins, Joan and Sanford Weill Dean of Public Policy and professor of public policy, Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy; and professor of economics, LSA.

• Elizabeth A. Davis, associate professor of education, SOE.

• Matthew Diemer, associate professor of education, SOE; and faculty associate, Research Center for Group Dynamics, Institute for Social Research.

• Kevin Karr, SOE alumnus; head principal at Mitchell-Scarlett K-8 International Baccalaureate Campus; K-12 International Baccalaureate district coordinator, Ann Arbor Public Schools.

• Lisa R. Lattuca, professor of education, SOE.

• Lyonel Milton, director of student affairs, SOE.

• Pamela Moss, professor of education, SOE.

• Carla O’Connor, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, professor of education and associate dean for academic affairs, SOE.

• Donald J. Peurach, assistant professor of educational studies, SOE.

• Kimberly Reyes, doctoral student in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education, SOE.

• Shari Saunders, clinical associate professor, SOE.

In her February email, Pollack praised Loewenberg Ball for her “outstanding service to the school’s core mission of the study and improvement of teaching and learning.”

“Dean Ball’s counsel on policy issues is widely regarded and her influence in the field has brought increased esteem and visibility to the School of Education.”
